14 held on betting scam in the indian premier league
Police busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket which resulted in 14 people being arrested.
Police carried out operations in five separate locations around the country after a prolonged probe, with seven suspects from Jaipur and seven from Hyderabad currently in custody.
Another investigation into further possible arrests in both Nagaur and Delhi has been initiated.
"Based on the information, raids were conducted in five locations at the same time across Hyderabad, New Delhi, Jaipur, and Nagaur in connection with illegal betting on the cricket matches being played at IPL, 2020,"
said Ashok Kumar Rathore, ADG, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Rajasthan.
He added, that teams have learned earlier how people from his state went to other states shielding their identities, and how they were interested in betting.
It comes after six suspects were arrested in a separate indore scam, also for their suspected role in illicit betting on the new IPL, with the Twenty20 cricket league in the UAE continuing.
A joint investigation by Indore police and Rajendra Nagar police saw things confiscated under the Public Gaming Act including 18 cell phones, a laptop, TV and cash.
