A Crown Employee Sued James Packer

Billionaire James Packer has been charged at Crown Resorts flagship casino in Melbourne with assault by a security officer.

The employee has brought civil action against his direct employer, MSS Security, and also against James Packer and Crown.

Security guard Iskander Chaban says an drunk Packer has attacked him on 1 January 2016 in documents lodged with the Victorian Supreme Court. Chaban says Packer has been physically aggressive and threatening, rushing at him and kicking him in the face.

The complaint comes after former Crown employee Jenny Jiang also lodged a lawsuit against the firm earlier this week. Jiang says she suffered her accident, disability and harm to the business.

As a result of allegations of money laundering found by the New South Wales Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) investigation, the Victorian Government has announced this week that it would put forward its routine review of the Melbourne casino license.

A renewal of Crown's license is expected by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) every five years, with the last review taking place in 2018. However, their next analysis was taken forward in the light of current developments.

"We’re making sure Crown Melbourne conducts its business in a transparent and appropriate manner. This review is needed given the evidence we’ve seen come out of the NSW inquiry. While we await the findings of that investigation, it’s appropriate to bring forward the next review to ensure Crown Melbourne is suitable to hold a licence in Victoria."

- said Melissa Horne, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation.

A statement from the company read:

"Crown has actively engaged with the VCGLR in relation to matters the subject of the ILGA Inquiry, including on Crown’s reform agenda. Crown will continue to work cooperatively with the VCGLR to support this review."
