Drop in Nevada gaming wins
According to the win revenue review for August 2020 recently released by the gaming control board, Nevada's casinos reported a total of $743 million in gambling wins representing a 22% decline compared to $953 million recorded for August 2019. Gaming win fell by 24% for the current fiscal year from 1 July 2020 until 31 August 2020.
According to the taxable revenues created in August, the state raised $78m in percentage fees through September 28, 2020. It represents a rise of $28 million, or 56%, compared to $50 million in fees earned in September last year. It is still t exceeding the $126m raised for June, however.
The Las Vegas strip on its own received sales of $317m, a 39% decrease from $521m recorded the year before. It posted $647m for fiscal year to date versus $1.06bn for the same period. But not all Clark County casino announced losses. For August, boulder strip announced an rise of nearly 30% to $70m, compared with $54m for the same month in 2019.
Nevada casinos were forced to abruptly shutter mid-March due to coronavirus, with several venues only accepting visitors at reduced capacity once again. Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak said this week that the state would relax some of the security controls.
