Less than 1% of Casino Employees Tested Positive for COVID-19 in Pennsylvania

According to the Pennsylvania regulator's latest figures, state-run casinos have a relatively reduced number of tainted workers. Of the state's 16,000 workers in the gaming sector, only 108 have been tested positive for COVID-19 since the casinos reopened in early June.

Less Than 1% Of Workers At Casino Screened Positive For COVID-19

There have been a total of 108 reported positive cases of casino workers since the reopening of Pennsylvania's casinos in June, according to data released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) on Thursday, last week. Of the state's 16,000 casino workers, 108 effective COVID-19 reports are fewer than 1%.

While the number of positive cases remains very low, we note a rise as we assess the number of positive COVID-19 casino workers from September through October. Back in September, Pennsylvania had just 14 casino workers who tested COVID-19 positive. In October the number jumped to 44 workers.

It should be noted that many of the employees who tested positive or were presumptive positive had not been on the facility’s property for a number of days before notification was made to the Board.”

PGCB attorney Denise L. Miller-Tshudy

Denise L. Miller-Tshudy, PGCB attorney said that no clear information were obtained about the working jobs of the casino workers who tested positive for COVID-19. According to Miller-Tshudy, however, the correctly checked workers were not in places that had direct interaction or work in public spaces.

Rivers Pittsburgh And Parx Record A Limited Number Of COVID-19 Employees Optimistic

According to PGCB results, at Rivers Pittsburgh Casino - 28 employees - most cases of optimistic casino employees were registered. In comparison, there were a total of 25 productive COVID-19 workers at parx, in Bensalem. With that in view, Rivers Pittsburgh Casino hires 1,360 people and the 28 positive cases reflect just about 2%.

Jack Horner, a Rivers Casino spokeswoman, explained that while the casinos reside in Pennsylvania's two counties with some of the largest population densities, the percentage of productive casino team members remains low.

We’re extremely grateful to Rivers Casino’s Team Members in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for their relentless dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.”

Carrie Nork Minelli, Director of Advertising and Public Relations at Parx, said in an interview with the Bucks County Courier Times that there have been over 1.4 million people visiting the property since its reopening 18 weeks ago.

In comparison, Minelli explained that there are actually more than 1,900 workers employed, and that the 25 tested positive employees constitute just 1.3% of the workforce. She added that for all of the workers who tested positive for COVID-19, no hospitalization was required.
