Macau’s September GGR dropped by 90% year-on-year
In September, Macaus' gross gaming revenue (GGR) plummeted to MOP2.21bn ($277m) by 90% year-on-year.
The data were released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
The GGR was equivalent to mop38.61bn ($4.84bn) for the nine months of 2020, down 83% year-on-year relative to mop220.30bn ($27.60bn) for the same duration of 2019.
Despite resuming the individual visit scheme with China, Macau has seen low numbers for September GGR. Residents of Zhuhai, an area closest to Macau, have been permitted to apply for IVS since August 12, and the residents of guangdong province approved IVS applications on August 26.
Brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd said the revived IVS service could attract more than 10,000 visitors a day, which is an increase over August's roughly 5,000 visitors a day.
