Gen.G has completed a fresh funding round adding $46 million in new funds to the venture. One person standing out from the benefit audience was Men in Black actor Will Smith who led the group.

Gen.G Invests New Project With Will Smith's Help

South Korean esports company Gen.G (Gen.Ghost) has successfully completed its new round of capital funding, raking in the money at $46 million. Re-branding from KSV Esports last year, Gen.G has scaled up its bid, recruited an all-female Fortnite team, named Team Bumble, and effectively played Overwatch League (OWL) players in the region.

Will Smith, the popular actor known for his roles in Men in Black, Bad Boys, Hancock and other recent blockbusters, and Keisuke Honda's Dreamers Fund, Japanese soccer player, led the new investment round.

Gen.G Rises Captivates Crowds' Attention

Gen.G succeeded in gaining publicity to itself. NBA Champion Chris Bosh advises the organisation. Gen.G has grown its global presence at a fast rate, attracting significant sums of money from various parties. Commenting on why he wanted to invest in Gen.G, Honda stated:

We decided to invest in Gen.G because of their incredible team and grand vision to become a leader in the space. We truly look forward to working with Gen.G to boost the esports industry around the world.

Gen.G is currently employing eight distinct professional teams spanning various sporting categories, including the League of Legends, Call of Duty, Clash Royale, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite, Overwatch, and most recently Apex Legends.

Gen.G has since drawn a crop of the sporting world's young athletes and executives. The group recently acquired the expertise of retired player of Major League Baseball (MLB) Martin Kim who is currently in charge of strategic alliance.

Esports companies have recruited individuals with hands-on expertise in brokering essential transactions and alliances, and vice versa – corporate leaders have been looking for opportunities to enter the sports industry.

Recently, Jack Harari left the NBA to join Activision Blizzard Esports, only one of the countless instances where business spirit is drawn to the largest game developers, sporting associations and tournament hosts.

Rapper Drake invested in 100 Thieves in October, joining the increasing number of celebrities to back the project. Imagine Dragons' Daniel Platzman in May 2018 invested in REKT Global, another powerhouse for sports.
