I really liked the theme of this game as well. It depicts the legendary history of Rome and uses everything from colors through symbols and characters in this 5 reel 20 pay line slot. The wild in this game is Caesar and it can substitute for all others symbols except for the scatters. The Gladiator is the scatter symbol in this video slot.

The bonus feature is triggered by 3 or more Gladiators who can be anywhere on the reels. In this bonus feature there are 9 shields from which you can choose only 4. Each shield is hiding either a cash reward that is 10 x your bet or you can get 8 free spins. All your winnings during the free spins are doubled too. There is another feature here, if you choose 4 shields with coin prizes you will still have 8 free spins even when you get back to the base game. While you are in the free spin mode you cannot retrigger the free spins. I truly believe that no matter what your bet is you can still earn some decent amount of money in Glory of Rome video slot. I am assured that this game will pay you every time you make a deposit. It might not make you rich over night but it will give you some courage to continue playing it. There were games with good paytable but didn't pay well enough, and there were also games that had very low paytables but came out quite well in its gameplay. So which of the two will this Glory Of Rome game fall into?

The first thing that anyone would notice is the lack of any attracting features in the game. The graphics looked very dated and way behind. The overall colour scheme of the game lacks vibrancy, not attractive at all. The iconic presentation of Julius Caesar, the Queen, the Gladiator and the others could do better, but okay, so it is an oldie. Paytable wise, Caesar is the Wild symbol, paying 5000x the line bet for 5 of them, but is unfortunately a dumb Wild symbol. It only substitutes for the other symbols except for the Scatter symbol. No doubling of wins, no nothing. The Gladiator is the Scatter symbol, paying 100x the total bet as usual, and getting 3, 4 or 5 of these Scatters award a Free Spins game of 8 initial free spins. You need to pick 4 out of 9 shields to get more free spins or some cash prizes. The maximum you can get is 40 free spins with all wins doubled, but more free spins cannot be retriggered. The symbols pay from 1500x the line bet for 5 of the Queen, down to 100x the line bet for 5 of each kind. An average paytable.

Somehow or rather, when it's a Microgaming game, an average paytable would usually perform slightly better than a game with a better paytable, and this Glory of Rome is one of them. Whenever I played this game over the years, albeit only intermittently, I tended to get satisfactory gameplay quite often, but the dry runs simply cannot be ridden. I like the Free Spins game, not because of anything, but for its more consistent payouts range. Getting 40x - 50x bet size wins weren't that difficult to get, and that makes for a more pleasing gameplay in general. I also like the pick-a-shield feature to win more free spins or to win instant cash rewards of 10x the total bet for each shield. This ensured that the final payout from the free spins are more balanced, and I like this.

The downside of Glory of Rome can be found by 2 scattered Gladiator symbols landing on the first 2 reels and coming up empty for the remaining reels. I think that I would trigger the multi feature but then I would feel that it got my hopes up for zip! Also, Glory of Rome needs 5 extra paylines because I found out that some combinations become unpaid on lines that don't exist.

To start off with I do not like the graphics in this game. Each picture is worse than the other and a pathetic lion puts the cherry on the cake. The sound effects are ok but I usually turn them off when I play this game. I gave this game a fair chance and realised that it was a stupid thing to do. I played it on €0.20 to €1 and got the bonus only once. To get it I had to get three or more gladiators anywhere on the reels. I managed to get three on a €1 bet and got free spins with cash award. In total I won around €29 and was very disappointed after spending around €60. I also managed to get a line hit of €25 and ended up being like a tenner down. I found this game to be very boring. I was not excited on every spins and did not have the hunger for the bonus as I usually do.

I could zone out and in while playing this game and that is a really bad side of this game. Maybe there are people who win a lot on this game but im not one of them. I would not recommend this game to anyone, but if you have a nice story or few pictures of big wins on this game I would love to see them. If I was to rate this game I would give it 4 out of 10. If only the Free Spins game can be retriggered, that would have made quite a big difference, with more win chances and even bigger wins. 40x - 50x the total bet wins may be acceptable to most, except for the big win hunters, which Glory of Rome may not be able to provide for at all.
