Yes, I've seen this beauty for myself, for real, as the boat quietly and slowly flows along the river, with thousands of fireflies amongst the trees on either side of the river bank. Oh yes, that was indeed a night show to remember, a real theatre of night!
NextGen has tried to recreate such a beauty in this game, Theatre of Night, a 10-paylines game, with fireflies swarming on the screen to usher in the Firefly Respins feature. The butterflies, the hummingbirds and the flowers contributing to creating a breathtaking scenario within a forest, in a cool bluish atmosphere, but not in darkness. Ah well, a good attempt nonetheless, which I feel would even be more breathtaking if done in darkness within the forest. That would accentuate those beautiful icons even more as they vibrantly stand out from the dark background, for a true theatre of night display.
Anyway, the Wild symbol in the game pays a very low 750x the line bet, or 30x the total bet, for getting 5 of them. It appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 in the base game, but appears on all reels during the free spins, and substitutes for all symbols. That's because there aren't any Scatter symbols, and the 3 Wild symbols act as the Scatter symbols to trigger the Firefly Respins feature of 6 free spins with fully stacked Wilds on reel 3. During the free spins, randomly selected symbols may also be turned into Wilds. Sadly though, this Respins feature game cannot be retriggered, and the Wilds do not double any wins either. The payouts during the free spins would be so much better if it does. Too bad. As for the other symbols, the Hummingbird pays 400x, the Butterfly and the Flower each pays 150x, and the rest pay from 50x to 25x, all per line bet for getting 5 of each kind. Luckily though, the game pays both ways, left-to-right and right-to-left, so that's a consolation for the no-doubling of any wins. Nonetheless, the paytable is a very low one.
Whether this is a good idea or not, is yet to be seen, because players are forced to play the game with a 2.5 times higher bet per spin. Personally, I don't like anything being forced upon me, so I don't like this bit at all. It should be my own choice if I want to play with higher bets, and not preset or predetermined as such.
Not only that, the payouts in the base game proved to be very low ones indeed, with only the Firefly Respins feature game providing some better wins, but that too hardly exceed 30x my bet amount. There was one time when I did get 8 Wilds on the reels, which got me very excited, but it only paid a damn low win of 17x my bet amount. That really hurts, and showed how low the paytable really is!
